Our photographer was able to gain acces to some Greek Orthodox churches in North London from Camden Town to Kentish Town and from Wood Green and Haringey to Edmonton. Αs it is tradition some women stay until the early hours of the Good Friday to painstakingly and patiently decorate the epitaphios which resembles the Tomb of Christ. It requires a lot of patience and some artistic touches to make it look as decorative as possible with various flowers and on occasions ribbons and or laces..
On the evening of the Good Friday a procession is taking place in the surrounding streets of the church and many local dignitaries such as MPs Mayors councillors police representatives participate in the Good Friday evening service.
In edmonton there will be a procession on Friday 17/04.2009 at the nearby roads of the Saint Demetrios church in Edmonton Logan Road/ Town Road N9
In some churches such as Edmonton it is expected to see over 5.000 attending the Good Friday service and again the Saturday Evening.
His Eminence Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain visited the community in Edmonton and in his eater message among others states that these events we celebrate are unique events of joy , salvation and the renewal of our blessed hope in Christ.
He wished the community every success and offered prayers for the Queen the community and the government the police and all those in authority.
